SYNOPSIS
Weihnachten 1877: Es ist der 40. Geburtstag von Kaiserin Elisabeth von Österreich (VICKY KRIEPS). In ihrer Rolle als Repräsentantin an der Seite ihres Mannes Kaiser Franz Joseph darf sie keine Meinungen äußern, sondern muss für immer die schöne junge Kaiserin bleiben. Um dieser Erwartung zu entsprechen, hält sie an einem rigiden Plan aus Hungern, Sport, Frisieren und täglichen Messungen der Taille fest. Doch Elisabeth ist eine wissbegierige und lebenshungrige Frau, deren Widerstand gegen das überlebensgroße Bild ihrer selbst wächst und die nicht länger in einem höfischen Korsett leben will.
